I found out that my university has an amazing student led newspaper, so I gladly joined it. I joined a variety of columns ranging from music, to art, to theatre, to wellbeing, to opinions. The music column struck my eye the most and I saw that they a commission post regarding "top 50 albums" was up for grabs by a variety of writers, thus I signed up for one of the albums in the excel spreadsheet. That gave me the idea of
I am not kidding when I say that I worked pretty hard on it, not only because I generally try to work hard for everything I do to ensure that it's the best work I can produce, but also because it is my first music review and writing for a new platform that I have never dipped my toes in before. It was good that it was amongst many other writers, and that I started out small by merely writing for one of the 50 albums - I definitely hope that I can have bigger works published in the near future.
The album I initially chose was Lana Del Rey's newest release, but unfortunately it was already booked by someone. I then had in mind either Billie Ellish's or Ariana Grande's or The Japanese House's newest 2019 album. Of course, the indie soul in me had to opt for The Japanese House.
Not going to lie, I have listened to that album before but did not think much of it. When I decided to write about it, that was when I. had a proper listen to each and every song. I then did my research and read a few music reviews by established music writers like The Rolling Stone and violá, there it was, my first ever music review.
Here's what I wrote:
I am glad I tried this out for the first time. Though I am no expert to claim myself as a music review writer, I do love listening and giving my input on good music. It also led me to be inspired to write on my blog and venture out into newest aspects in writing. Win, win indeed.
With love,
Cheryl
