Cake By The Ocean

Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to spend my 16th birthday by the beach which is no doubt one of my favourite places ever, with the people who mean most to me. I had the best time and reminiscing over it makes my heart feel all happy and warm.

On the first day, we arrived in the late afternoon and had to take a short speed boat to the beach, the view felt like an actual dream. We had a quick bite as we were feeling rather peckish. Filled with exhilaration and awe, we were greeted by some friendly hornbills, some of the cutest birds I've ever seen, that joined us for our late lunch.

The food was great and once we settled in and felt more refreshed, nothing could stop us from rushing to the beach. I grabbed my favourite pink tonned swimsuit, polka dot with a shocking pink bow flip flops and headed straight to the beach. It was wonderful; everything about it. The crashing waves that brought absolute bliss to my ears, pulling the sand into and out of the shore. It truly felt like I was in one of those beautifully described beaches in books or painted in paintings. The stones that surrounded the bay of the beach gave it definition and there were swings hanging from the massive tree as well as beach chairs all around to laze around in. The water that evening was glistening and was at high tide, giving the perception of the beach that went on for infinite, especially with the beautiful tonal values of the sea ranging from crystal baby blue to deep turquoise ocean blue.

Later that evening, we had a lovely meal at a seafood place to celebrate my birthday and I honestly had the nicest time. The food was ravishing and made me crave more after every bite. I was surprised with a little cake as well as the whole restaurant joined in to sing happy birthday. I felt awkward but at the same time the luckiest girl in the world to be surrounded by the people I love dearly. We ended the night, after exploring the island a little more, by watching the recording of the musical we were in.

The next morning, I was awaken rather early by my best friend and brother. We had a peaceful breakfast together and went to the pool after. It felt so relaxing and I couldn't have possibly enjoyed it further. By 10 o'clock, we then went for jungle trekking which lasted for around 2 hours. I had to borrow shoes from the kindest staff member as I completely forgot to bring mine. As we began the tour/jungle trek, I started to fall in love with mother nature more and more once again. Mother nature is such a blessing to this world and I'd hate for it to be taken for granted, though it already is. Our tour guide was absolutely brilliant. He was so passionate about his work, giving such detailed and well explained information that left me thinking. Plus, he added a touch of humour to it which made it that much more entertaining. It was rather inspiring, I must say.

Afterwards, to sooth our rumbling stomachs, we had lunch by the sea and continued our sea enjoyment for the rest of the afternoon, with occasional stops by the pool and back. It was all sorts of fun and relaxation that I couldn't have enjoyed more. How I miss the tides and waves that pulled me in and out as well as the sand that felt extremely fine and soft, sinking my feet into as I felt the ocean pulling me in, embracing my presence. Though the sand in my swimsuit occasionally became a slight hassle and the prickly stones near the edge of the waves became painful to step on (it gave a somewhat nice massage), the sun kissed hair and salty taste that lingered on my lips made up for it no doubt.

In the evening, we got to witness the sunset that was absolutely beautiful. We then had chinese food for dinner and ended the rather eventful day at a little game hall that consisted of ping pong, pool and darts. What madness. We woke up super early the next day as well to catch the last moments of the sea together before heading back. (I also realised I got sunburnt on my nose because I applied sunblock everywhere apart from my nose, oops). I felt like a little kid again; catching seashells, burying myself in sand and splashing against the waves. Not sure if I'm turning six or sixteen, really.

No words could really describe how much I enjoyed the beach, food and good conversation with good company I had over the past weekend. I honestly had the best time with the people I hold near and dear to my heart and had one of the best weekends ever. It was such a magical way to end this wonderful, wonderful summer break.

With love,

Cheryl
